Consultant Medical Oncologist at St George’s Cancer Care Centre since 2014.

Bernie graduated in medicine from the University of Otago and went on to complete his clinical training at The Royal Marsden Hospital in London. Following that, he completed a research degree at the Institute of Cancer Research in Sutton, Surrey. He returned to New Zealand in 1981, and was the first modern-trained medical oncologist to do so.

Having retired from working in the public sector, Bernie currently works with patients at St George’s Cancer Care Centre and is undertaking melanoma research.

Bernie is a member of various medical organisations, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the New Zealand Breast Cancer Specialist Interest Group.
