Blake graduated in medicine from the University of Otago. He subsequently moved to Sydney where he completed haematology training at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Concord Repatriation Hospital. This was followed by a PhD at the ANZAC Research Institute in Sydney, investigating a novel way of preventing GVHD following allogeneic bone marrow transplant. He returned to Christchurch in 2018 and has worked at Christchurch Hospital as consultant haematologist. Blake has been a consultant Haematologist at St George’s Cancer Care Centre since 2022.
