Jess graduated from Medical School at the University of Sheffield, UK. In 2011 she moved to New Zealand with her family.

She started her Medical Oncology training in Tauranga Hospital and completed this in Wellington Hospital. Her post graduate training includes a research fellowship in Melanoma and a fellowship in Phase 1 oncology research at The Christie Hospital NHS Trust, Manchester UK. She returned to New Zealand to work as a Medical Oncologist in Timaru Hospital in 2020.

She is a member of various medical societies including American Society of Oncology and Society of Geriatric Oncology. She is the rural representative for the National Teletrials Steering Committee aiming to improve access to rural access to clinical trials.
